The Honor 9X is the latest addition in Honor home. It places itself – for price and performance – among mid-level Android devices. The design and the camera seem to be its strengths. During the presentation of this new smartphone George Zhao, President of Honor said: “At Honor we want to be at the forefront of technological innovation and smartphone design to offer our users the best user experience. The introduction of new technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) is transforming the way consumers live their lives. Honor 9X, with its extraordinary photographic capabilities, elegant design and unparalleled software performance, has been designed from the ground up for our young and dynamic audience“. It is fair to mention that Honor, which is owned by Huawei, has to deal with the commercial ban imposed by Trump last May. And it seems that the arrival on the market of this Honor 9X with on board Android is possible only because the license was obtained from Google prior to the decision of the White House.

The camera

Let’s start with the camera. The Honor 9X features a 48MP Triple Camera with f/1.8 aperture and a ½-inch sensor on the rear shell. This is an area that, according to data released by the company owned by Huawei – can rely on advanced AI algorithms. In particular, it is the AIS Super Night Mode that promises the best things, with interesting performances even in sub-optimal light conditions. Also with regard to the rear cameras, it is included a 120 ° Super Wide Angle Camera, which should help users capture more detailed images. The front selfie camera, instead, is a 16 MP pop-up camera, which opens from the upper body when in action, and disappears when it is not active.

Display and design

The front of the HONOR 9X is a 6.59″ (1080×2340 pixels) FullView display with full-screen display technology, edge to edge, without notches. The panel technology is LTPS IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen, with 16M colors, and has a screen-to-body ratio of 84.7%. The rear shell of the smartphone, on the other hand, is composed of over 100,000 diamond-cut geometric tiles that reflect and refract light to create a very special dynamic effect. There are two colors available: Sapphire Blue and Midnight Black. Weight is 206g, thickness 8.8mm.

Processor and battery

The other technical features are the headphone jack, USB Type C charging, 10W, for a very capacious battery (4000 mAh), 64GB 4GB RAM, 64GB 6GB RAM, 128GB 6GB RAM, 128GB 8GB RAM of internal memory possible configurations that can be expanded up to 640GB with a 512GB microSD card. The heart of this Honor 9X is the HiSilicon Kirin 810 (7 nm) chip. The CPU is Octa-core (2×2.27 GHz Cortex-A76 & 6×1.88 GHz Cortex-A55). The operating system is Android 9.

Price and availability

The HONOR 9X was released on July 2019. It can be found from around $300 in selected countries on the official website, but it is also available in other stores starting from just $158.99.
